Thanks for the podcast recommendation, I’m going the Teacher’s Trial, I love those kinds of podcasts. I don’t know you well yet (new subscriber) but from the photo of those cute fluff balls I know we’d get on! How’d you like Naples? I was there this summer! From Sheila, a fellow chronic warrior (yeah just a chronic warrior I’m going to cut out the illness part haha 😂).
Haha the fluff balls are just gorgeous!! I was actually in Puglia so I cheated a little, but def need to visit Naples now... Chronic warrior - welcome to my Substack - there's a few of us warriors around. How lovely to meet you xx
I feel like Naples is a bit marmitey, some love it and others hate it. I was a big fan, albeit spent the invite trip with my money very well hidden and on guard. Lovely to meet you too! 💗
yes I've heard the warnings!! I will def visit there - I love a bit of rawness in a country, and the landscape sounds incredible...too many places, not enough time?!?! xx
Yes! Me too, I also very much agree about the too many places and not enough time. I feel like the more I travel the longer my list of places I want to visit gets. Not the other way round!
Lovely to hear your news and thoughts on how to balance a writing life with paying the bills. My cousin's a dog walker and loves it so much. Was good to bump into you over on Farrah Storr's webinar too! So interested in your Tea book. My life has revolved around tea too, my Nana, Mum, rainy student afternoons and now my eldest daughter who's two weeks into her first year of uni and already sent an SOS for MORE TEA! What you said about the phases of talking about your brother Brian resonated so much. My Mum was terminally ill when I became a mother and couldn't deal with the small talk in mother and baby groups at all. If you'd approached me in the park with ‘Hi, I’m Emma. My brother just died. Would you like my phone number?’ I'd have said yes. X
Oh I love the SOS for more tea!! It's so hard to be in that small talk phase of life when you're going through such monumental grief - I'm so sorry for your experience, and I can't tell you how much it means to me that you would have said yes. This message has touched me deeply. Thank you and much love 💕
Love this Emma, I'm going to come back and dive in properly! I also want to really think about the space that I am creating here and you've given me some great ways of looking at that. Thank you.
Thanks Emma, that's so kind of you. I think I've been focusing on the numbers too much, which I really don't want to. When I read this I sat and thought about what I wanted here and what came through was somewhere you can be in sacred council, like elders used to do in community. That feels safe to share and take a pause. That was prompted by your words, so thank you for that! I love the idea of being a Tea Sommelier by the way. Recently I have had thoughts about becoming a celebrant, it's never been on my radar before, but who knows!
Oh I love that - it makes me think of being in Middle Earth!! A safe place to share and take a pause is beautiful. We always get sucked in by the numbers - it's our societal narrative, so I actively try to resist this, and I honestly do believe that that side of it will play out as it needs to. I have also toyed with becoming a celebrant...maybe one day - just not at the moment!! I'll def keep you updated with how the tea sommelier training goes! x
Middle Earth I love that! Yes, I think you’re absolutely right about it playing out. I’ve just realised it should be counsel rather than council, which makes me think of bins and traffic cones! 😂 Oh please do keep me updated. x
So many great recommendations here Emma, I don't know how you find the time 😊 And I'm with you all the way on the tea-love, it's been such a vital part of my wellness journey - I have a whole kitchen drawer full of uppers and downers. Tea is medicine ❤
I love your work, your vibe, your honesty, the joy and the sheer brilliance that comes through in your work and your photos... I’m so curious to know more about your wild swimming but maybe I have to wait for the book? 📖
Thanks for the shout out too - love our little heart leap space! I’m just Tuesdays now (mum life Thursdays) and I just ADORE it! 💕
Oh thank you so much. Claire you are a flipping Substack legend. I really think you are going to be the next 'Farrah Storr' and I mean that in the best possible way. You are generous, insightful, knowledgeable, engaging and just lovely. I will be shouting you out all the way. Heart Leap is a special place isn't it!!
Oh I have SO much to say about wild swimming - it's funny I feel like I talk about it so much, but I probably don't do much of it yet on Substack so maybe I should do more! I have a couple of 'paid' posts with excerpts from my book. I'd be delighted to comp you a few months if you'd like to read? You have given so much 💕
I definitely feel excited when I see one of your shares land in my inbox! Always a must read right away🍋
Aaw thank you, you are SO lovely and that makes me very happy 💕🙏
