Sounds like a lovely day! And gosh, do I know about procrastination. Chocolate rewards help, I find.😊 I couldn't help but think of Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple with your Antarctic dreams. That was quite a read, although it sounds like you have prepped your family MUCH better than Bernadette. Fun post. Thank you!

Ooh I shall look that up, I don't know that book thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the post - life is never dull! 🤣💕

Oh I'm vicariously excited to hear about your interview Emma!! Good luck 😀 And on procrastination, it's my work from home day today and I'm under my duvet with a kitty in my lap, reading posts on Substack with a cup of tea, after promising myself I would get up early and be productive....

I’m so excited to hear about the interview-when you wrote about the job I wondered how far you’d go with it. Also my OH has just bought the Japan book so I’m looking forward to reading it in due course. It’s good to know that other people fritter away time that should have been used for “that important task” just like I have today.

Oh there is a lot of 'frittering'! I honestly have no idea how far this job experiment will go, I'm going with it for now... Whatever happens I'm learning a lot about Antarctica and that is going to weave it's way into my life one way or another... ☺️x

Loved hearing about your day, sooooo relate to all… AND!! ANTARCTICA?!

I want to hear more. All the things.

Oh really?!? You must read this post!!!

which explains everything.... It is also my dream destination, and a job opportunity came up that I am randomly qualified for...so I am investigating. It's all quite surreal and I'm not really sure what I'm doing 🤣. Most people think I'm bonkers so I love your enthusiasm! x

I love this window into your world today Emma. I am ace at finding anything to do that isn't what I'm supposed to be doing, it usually involves food or drink or gazing out the window.

yes lots of that. I remember seeing something that said 'I eat because my mouth gets lonely' which made me laugh so much. My mouth gets lonely a lot when I have things I need to do 🤣

I love this Em! ❤️ Ok, so from one expert procrastinator to another, I have a few comments (whilst I'm supposed to be studying, shhh! 😆) 1. How harsh is your editor! 🤣 2. Congratulations on the interview offer, amazing! Never doubted it 💞 3. What a gorgeous response from the girls 🥰 4. Your dog is so cute! And finally, I think your day sounds fabulous and just the way it was meant to be! ❤️

Aah thank you for making me smile so much (I am now in edit mode but just had to come and read your comment 🤣). The girls are treasures - most of the time, the dog is gorgeous although not mine, and weirdly I am very on board with my editor's 'red pen'. It's a very interesting process!! Ooh what are you studying?? What can you distract me with today? 🤣 Much love ❤️

Thanks for taking us along through your day. Mine are similar in the sense of bits of this and that, and being pulled in many directions, and getting through it all, with snippets of hopes and dreams here snd there! A joyful jumble. So exciting that Antarctica is still on the cards!

I read this with my morning eyes as 'a joyful crumble' 🤣. Yes it really is getting through it all with snippets along the way, and I really do not know how to feel about Antarctica but I'm going with it for now... xx

Thank you 🥰 I enjoyed today too! I actually posted a note about community engagement and how it goes hand in hand with writing if your goal is to reach to people and help them.. with also video of me talking freely in my loungewear 😂 wanted to give it a go.

I am so glad about this community I just discovered 🤍

And in terms of procrastination I agree…we tend to avoid some tasks.. maybe because we feel like the energy needed to complete them is not matching the energy we have at that moment.. it’s almost never true, it’s our brain coming up with excuses 😂

maybe today had to go this way though, otherwise we wouldn’t have connected 🥰 you did so much more ☺️

Yes you are so right - my energy is definitely not matching the task I need to do today, and I try to be kind to myself about that but I am slightly nervous about my deadline. I think I just need to try and approach it all with gusto tomorrow... and absolutely I'm delighted my day has gone this way and we have connected. That is far more significant 💕

Expand full comment

Yes 🙌🏻 in terms of deadline, I would work backwards, look how many words you have to write and how many days, choose what days you will be resting, look at how many hours a day is optimal for your creativity, and then you will see how many words you need to write those “working” days ☺️ that’s super simplified as it doesn’t take into account the other things you have to do and if you can postpone some to give more hours to writing etc… but you get the idea 🥰

yes indeed, and my deadline is slightly flex but if I push it back, it will impact other things next month - you know how it goes! I think you really hit the nail on the head about the energy I need matching the task. As someone with chronic fatigue, that can be a real challenge for me. Although I have been largely well for a long time, cognitive fatigue can still be a real issue. When I'm mentally energised, I am hugely productive, and when the fatigue fairies appear I am very low on productivity. That doesn't always fit with the plan of available time! Thank you for the support and encouragement ❤️

Sorry to hear that, I didn’t know ! That surely is debilitating when you need to get things done. Happy to see you acknowledged it and that you are working “with” it, instead of against it ☺️

oh you are very welcome, if you need to run anything organisation-related to me based on days etc feel free to! I actually love doing this kind of things 😁😘

Bloody hell! What next? Go for it girl - if i can do a skydive at 83, my baby girl can go to Antarctica !

Sounds like an opportunity not to be missed - perhaps you and himself could go together? I can look after your grownup babies (provided I survive my Skydive!!)
