I used the episode of Bagpuss with the ship in the bottle just two weeks ago with my class. It was quite extraordinary. Sooo many memories like you say and so familiar. The children absolutely loved it. I used it for ‘Drawing Club’ where we share a story, learn some new vocabulary after which I model a drawing linked to the story. I then ‘invite’ them to Drawing Club and they draw their own imaginative creations. It’s rather wonderful and Bagpuss proved to be the perfect inspiration all these years later ♥️

Oh that's so lovely!! We do quite a lot of porridge here with honey or maple syrup - something so very comforting!! x

It’s so comforting. I can’t get the oats fine enough for a good porridge here in Spain but now I say it out loud I realise I could try wizzing them up myself. I may have to experiment with this and try that maple syrup combo you’ve got me thinking about now!

Lovely, Emma. Being an American, I never knew the charming series. And too, he arrived way after I was a child. But your memories of predictability and comfort are also mine and reading yours was so sweet.

Thank you Frances - I always think of Sesame Street in that way too - always the same format, with a slightly different flavour so it gave the sense of knowing and safety, but there were always little surprises along the way! What would have been one of your childhood favourites? I wonder if I will know it? x

I had to have myself a think on this early morning and feared I might have forgotten the name of the only children's TV show in 1952 (yes, I am old). But I did it and even found a tiny black and white clip on youtube. It was 'Ding Dong School 'with the kindly Miss Frances.

Thank you for the prompt down memory lane, Emma.

Loved Bagpuss! Such a dreamy cosy programme. We, my two sisters and brother, used to watch it still in our pyjamas, wrapped up in our warm dressing gowns while wolfing down rounds of toast and thick slices of halloumi.

Oh my goodness, my heart is so warmed by this! I LOVED Bagpuss 😻. Safety is a word that is rising up in consciousness, as we all yearn for that inner peace and heal our inner child. Thereby healing the inner child of humanity through the ripple effect. Who knew our beloved Bagpuss would create such healing! Beautiful, magical, saggy old cloth cat 💖

Aah, how wonderful. Yes I think that's what came to me as I was writing - it was all about safety - familiarity, comfort, predictability...why are all these things so important? They make us feel safe x

Aw Bagpuss is an instant teleportal to my childhood 🩷 I had a bagpuss toy too... no idea what became of him, but I love that Bagpuss is the same age as me! Thanks for the nostalgia trip 😊
